Terms & Conditions
These terms apply when you book, attend or use a Passmasters Rider Training Limited course, assessment, motorcycle hire or related service.
1. Agreement to these terms
By completing a booking with Passmasters Rider Training Limited (Passmasters, we, us or our), you agree to these terms and any course-specific requirements shown during booking or sent in your confirmation email.
Please read the cancellation, motorcycle, licence and equipment requirements carefully before paying. Contact us before booking if anything is unclear.
2. Reservations and payment
- Full payment or the stated booking fee is required when you book.
- Your place is not confirmed until the booking process is complete and payment has been accepted.
- Online card payments are processed securely by Windcave. Passmasters does not store or have access to your full payment-card details.
- Prices are shown in New Zealand dollars and include GST unless stated otherwise.
Check that the course type, date, location, participant details and licence requirements are correct before completing payment.
3. Changes or cancellation by Passmasters
Courses may be subject to minimum participant numbers, instructor availability, venue availability and safe operating conditions. We may change, postpone or cancel a course when reasonably necessary.
If Passmasters cancels or reschedules your course, you may transfer to another suitable date or request a refund of the amount paid for that course.
4. CBTA assessments and Basic Handling Skills
Please provide more than 48 hours’ notice when you need to cancel or change a CBTA or Basic Handling Skills booking.
| Cancellation within 48 hours | 100% of the booking fee may be forfeited. |
|---|---|
| Transfer requested within 24 hours | You may transfer to another date, but 50% of the original booking fee will be forfeited. |
| More than 20 minutes late | You may be unable to complete the assessment or course and 50% of the fee may be forfeited. |
| No suitable motorcycle | If a motorcycle is required and you arrive without one, without pre-booked hire, 100% of the booking fee may be forfeited. This does not apply to Basic Handling Skills sessions where a training motorcycle is included. |
| Incorrect licence or unroadworthy motorcycle | You may be unable to participate unless the issue can be corrected immediately, and 50% of the fee may be forfeited. |
Any motorcycle used for a road-based assessment must be legal, roadworthy and suitable for the licence class and assessment being completed.
5. Waiheke Island CBTA and Basic Handling Skills
Waiheke Island courses involve additional travel and operating costs and may be subject to minimum participant numbers.
| More than 7 days’ notice | 100% refund. |
|---|---|
| Less than 7 days’ notice | No refund. |
6. ACC Ride Forever courses
A non-refundable booking fee is payable when you book a Ride Forever course. The fee is generally $20 or $50 depending on the course and any current programme pricing or promotion.
Ride Forever courses are subsidised by ACC based on attendance. The booking fee is an administration or participant contribution and is not the full retail value of the training.
| Transfer to a lower-value course | No refund of the difference will be provided. |
|---|---|
| Transfer to a higher-value course | You must pay the difference. |
| Cancellation more than 7 days before the course | The non-refundable booking fee is forfeited. |
| Cancellation within 7 days or non-attendance | The booking fee is forfeited and you may be required to pay up to $199 toward course and instructor costs. Once that course fee is paid, you may attend the same type of course at a later date. |
| Incorrect licence, unsuitable motorcycle or non-compliance | You may be unable to participate. The booking fee is forfeited and you may be required to pay up to $199 toward course and instructor costs. |
Ride Forever funding and participant conditions are linked to attendance. Please contact us as early as possible if you cannot attend.
7. Track-based training days
You are responsible for preparing your motorcycle and ensuring it passes any required inspection. If the motorcycle fails inspection, you may not be able to participate and no refund will be provided.
| More than 2 weeks’ notice | 100% refund or transfer to another date. |
|---|---|
| Between 1 and 2 weeks’ notice | 50% refund, or 50% of the fee may be applied to a transfer. |
| Less than 1 week’s notice | No refund and no transfer. |
8. Adverse weather
Courses generally operate in wet or changeable weather. We may postpone, change or stop training when severe conditions make the course unsafe.
If Passmasters decides a course cannot safely proceed, we will contact affected participants and arrange a transfer or refund in accordance with section 3.
9. Participant conduct and safety
- Follow the directions and safety instructions given by your instructor or assessor.
- Wear suitable motorcycle clothing and protective equipment for the course.
- Tell us about any physical, medical or other condition that may affect safe participation.
- Treat instructors, assessors, other participants, venue staff and members of the public with courtesy.
- Ride lawfully and responsibly on public roads. Dangerous riding, inappropriate speeding and deliberate non-compliance are not accepted.
An instructor may alter, suspend or end training if they reasonably believe a participant is unsafe, lacks the required control or competence, is affected by alcohol or drugs, or does not follow instructions. An alternative course may be recommended where appropriate, at the instructor’s discretion.
10. Motorcycles, hire equipment and personal property
Passmasters supplies a training motorcycle on selected courses. Where you use your own motorcycle, it must be suitable, roadworthy, correctly licensed and compliant with current legal requirements, including an L plate where required.
We may refuse the use of a motorcycle that we reasonably consider unsafe or unsuitable for the training or assessment.
- You are responsible for loss or damage to your own motorcycle and personal property during training, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
- Equipment or motorcycles supplied, loaned or hired by Passmasters must be used carefully and returned in the required condition.
- The hirer may be liable for loss of or damage to a hired motorcycle, its accessories and related recovery, salvage or consequential costs, excluding fair wear and tear.
- Any additional bike-hire terms presented during booking also apply.
11. Consumer rights and liability
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, Fair Trading Act 1986 or other applicable New Zealand law.
Motorcycle training involves inherent risks. You remain responsible for your riding decisions, legal compliance and the safe operation of your motorcycle. Passmasters is not responsible for loss caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control, except to the extent liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
12. Privacy and communications
We handle personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Booking and service communications may be sent by email, telephone or text using the details provided during booking.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The terms that apply to your booking are those published or provided when the booking is made, unless a change is required by law or you agree otherwise.
